Community, Collective Pride, and Our Human Treasures - ATD Fourth World New Mexico

From a Sense of Community to Collective Pride

In August, the New Mexico team was visited by Kirsten, an ATD Fourth World Volunteer Corps member in New York City. She was a facilitator for the Brownsville Story Garden in Brooklyn, where families live in high-rise buildings. She brought many pictures that she shared at Story Garden (SG) in Black Mesa, AZ, Gamerco and the Gallup flea market.

Stronger Together: An Action Research to Learn from Families

“I don’t want my kids to go through what I went through.” We hear those words often from parents who have experienced poverty, here in New Mexico and Arizona, but also throughout the more than 30 countries where ATD Fourth World works. Parents make great efforts to give their children the best life possible-- to keep their family together--and yet it often feels like an uphill battle: even the best-intentioned services and supports are not always what the family knows it needs to thrive.

Searching for Our Human Treasures: A Tapori campaign

In October, Story Garden joined the worldwide network of children called Tapori, to be part of the new campaign “Searching for Our Human Treasures." We are learning from the children about who their loved ones are, and what special memories or objects are most precious to them.

Watch children in New Mexico and New York City tell us about their treasures!
