To Infinity and Beyond!
Over this spring, the kids at our Gamerco Street Library and students from Chief Manuelito Middle School have been working hard developing our second children’s museum exhibit. This time, instead of looking at the ground to learn about the prehistoric past, we have been looking up to the stars!Everything began by showing the students a film on the International Space Station, a truly inspiring feat of technological creativity and collaboration. In the early stages, students spent time researching our solar system, life in space and on several planets like Mars, as well as local Navajo cosmology. Students have worked diligently on assembling model rockets and robotics, while other students have developed their audio and visual recording and editing skills by creating a set of educational videos with narrated voiceovers to present the findings of their research in a creative, engaging light.Even our kids at the Gamerco Street Library helped out by applying the first layer of paint on our plaster planets! The new Space Adventure Exhibit will be open to the public at the Children’s branch of the Octavia Fellin Public Library in Gallup in the coming months. Currently, the interactive Dinosaur Adventure Exhibit is hosted at Chief Manuelito Middle School. Both projects work toward a common goal: to inspire, develop, and enhance the manual and artistic skills of students and kids, while providing a hands-on learning and adventure opportunity for the children of the community. Stay tuned for updates on when and where you can begin your next adventure!
