[JOB ANNOUNCEMENT] We are looking for a paid intern for the archives!

ATD Fourth World is looking for a paid intern to assist in processing our archives.

ATD Fourth World is a movement of solidarity and action in collaboration with people around the world who experience extreme exclusion. ATD Fourth World works to overcome the injustices of persistent poverty and social exclusion by bringing together people, learning from people who face poverty, running family and community projects, doing participatory research, and advocating internationally on poverty and human rights issues at the United Nations and other  international organizations.

The ATD Fourth World Chicago archives preserve the organization’s work and history, securing the  evidential story of suffering, courage, resistance, and intelligence of people who live in extreme poverty, and those dedicated to bearing witness to their struggles and resiliency.

The International Joseph Wresinski Archives and Research Center in France supports the ATD Fourth World teams in collecting and preserving this evidence. The result is a unique heritage consisting of more than 60 years of writings (2.1 linear kilometers), millions of photos, audio recordings, films and works of art. Collected, classified, and preserved at the center, using state of the art methods, these archives are the missing sources of a history of the denial of poverty and the struggles to eradicate it.

The ATD Fourth World USA archives are located in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood at 3112 N California Avenue. Our archives consist of records created by the USA branch since 1964 and are being processed for permanent storage. The Chicago office works closely with our international archives team. ATD Fourth World USA is looking for help processing our photo negative collection for digitization.

This part-time position is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student in the Information Sciences, Archive, Museum, or Records Management fields of study.
