Community News in New York

On July 1, our annual Festival of Arts and Learning took place in Brownsville on the theme of Fantasy World, bringing to children four universes: Dragons and Dungeons, Superheroes, Under the Sea, and Magical Forest, with magical moments and surprises for all. Watch the Festival video.

At the end of August, two ATD Fourth World Volunteer Corps members - Marina Mingot and Alvaro Iniesta - moved from Spain to the United States with their three children, to join the team in NYC.

On September 6, a writing workshop was held in the Fourth World House, with French ally Mireille Baurens as facilitator. On the topic of ‘’inspiration,” all participants shared by writing what inspired them in life to move forwards despite difficulties.

On September 8, four interns from John Jay College joined our NYC office to support the team in various activities from Story Garden to researching local advocacy and October 17 preparation. Welcome to Jennifer, Nayelle, Janat and Ijaaz!

On September 15, we hosted our Back Together BBQ, a beautiful occasion to gather our members and friends, old and new, in the Fourth World House backyard. We also took time to share news of the preparation for October 17 at the UN and ways to involve our members. Enjoy some pictures below.

The report for the Fourth World People’s University (FWPU): Dignified Work is here! Bringing together youth struggling to find decent jobs, care economy workers, and practitioners in the field of recruitment and human resources, FWPU allowed for rich conversations with multi-level solutions (from company to policy). Dynamic tools such as Theatre of the Oppressed’s Forum Theater were used to act out situations of injustices and discrimination at work, and to find possible solutions together.
